Operation

To utilise the reversible blade spin feature, connect the saw to a two way hydraulic circuit.

If you do not have a two-way circuit, you can swap the hose connection to choose the direction of spin. This usually does not work with single-direction saws.

Why Have Reversible Blade Spin?

Keeping your excavator clean

Fine, silty slurry leaves the cut at speeds up to 50m/s. Being able to reverse the spin direction allows you to decide where they end up.

Most of the time you want to send it away from your excavator, for safety and reduced maintenance.

Safety

In most situations it is safer for the operator to spin the blade so that the debris flies away from the excavator. This keeps the operator safe from projectiles.

For site protection, it allows the operator to control he direction of spin at will, so that the debris can be directed away from exposed property or persons.

Horizontal Cutting

Being able to control the spin direction allows the operator to spin the blade in the direction that tries to push it out of the cut, which takes up the backlash it the excavator articulation and slew.

Without it, the blade will be drawn into the cut where it will most likely jam, abruptly stopping the blade, and potentially damaging it. After the blade has stopped in the cut, the saw must be removed from the cut so that it can be brought up to speed again.

Q & A

Do diamond blades work in both directions?

Most general purpose diamond blades supplied for use with excavator saws can be spun in either direction.

Some blades, particularly for concrete cutting, are designed to be spun in one direction only.

Do all Echidna rocksaws have reversible blade spin?

Reversible blade spin is a standard feature of all Echidna diamond saw drives.

OmniCut and Tungsten Carbide saws have only single direction spin as the blades will only cut in one direction.

Does reversing the blade spin hurt the saw / excavator?

No
